Farrah, We Will Miss You

by Suzanne Somers 6/25/2009 11:40:00 AM

Farrah was a beautiful person.. she was the first person to inspire us to exercise and stay fit.  We all remember the golden haired girl in the tennis dress... and wanted what she had. She lived a fabulous life and loved fiercely.  Her relationship with Ryan was one of great passion and is the stuff of legends.  She will always be remembered as the "it" girl of our times.

I knew Farrah and know how fiercely she fought to live.  It is a life unfinished but she will never be forgotten, such was her impact.

My deepest condolences to Ryan O'Neal and her son, Redmond.  My condolences also to Farrah's father who has now lost two daughters to this terrible disease.

And my deepest admiration to Farrah's best friend, Alana Stewart, who showed the world what it means to be a truly good friend. I am filled with sadness today... Farrah was so young, so talented, so beautiful and so loved.  We lost a great star today who was in her prime and I will miss her.

Her passing only dedicates me more to my work on anti-aging medicine and finding alternative treatments to fight this insidious killer.  Farrah's story should have had a different ending....

Sincerely,

Suzanne Somers

Teen Outsmarts Doctors in Science Class

by Suzanne Somers 6/16/2009 12:28:00 PM

What to do you do when you’ve been given a diagnosis from your doctor that just doesn’t match how your body is feeling???  Here’s the story of an amazing 18 year old, named Jessica Terry, who took matters into her own hands and diagnosed herself in her AP Science Class!  Patient intuition is a remarkably strong instinct.  We are fortunate to have many wonderful doctors who can look at our symptoms and form treatment plans based on their assessments, however, in some cases symptoms are missed – or misdiagnosed.  Here’s a teenager who just knew there was something else wrong, even when the doctors had made up their minds.  Jessica, I am your #1 fan!!!

Sincerely,

Suzanne Somers

Sip of Sunshine

by Suzanne Somers 6/10/2009 12:06:00 PM
Sip of SunshineVitamin D – the Sunshine Vitamin

After interviewing hundreds of anti-aging doctors and health experts, they all agree upon the importance of anti-oxidants to enhance our immune system and stave off age related illnesses; with Vitamin D at the top of the list.  While we can absorb Vitamin D from sun exposure, most of us do not get our 15 minute daily dose, or are not willing to risk damage from UV rays.  Studies have shown people who live in the northern or southern parts of the globe have higher rates of cancer, due to lack of Vitamin D.

I am so excited to let you know I am launching a brand new product, in my new line of SUZANNE Essentials… it’s called Sip of Sunshine!  I am so excited to let you know it’s here!!!

With SUZANNE Essentials, Sip of Sunshine, now you can get your daily Vit D in a delicious pink lemonade drink, sweetened with All Natural SomerSweet.  The powerful anti-oxidants in Sip of Sunshine strengthen your immune system and fight cancer-causing free radicals.  Plus, with an extra boost of GliSODin, it’s clinically proven to support cardiovascular health!

Did I mention how delicious it tastes?  What a wonderful way to get your 15 minutes of sunshine!  Go to SUZANNE.com to check it out!!

Sincerely,

Suzanne Somers

Two Scariest Women on the Planet - Oprah and Suzanne

by Suzanne Somers 6/4/2009 3:35:00 PM

Have you seen this week’s Newsweek magazine? Here we go again! They have a new article on how Oprah is giving "dangerous" advice by having uninformed guests give false information to the public.  First of all, how dare they alter Oprah’s image for that cover!  It’s out of focus, and they have obviously added bags and shadowing under her eyes to make her look crazed and scary.

In the article, I am listed as scary guest #1.  You know me, the very scary, Suzanne Somers!  Now Pat Wingert, the woman who wrote the first attack article in February, is at it again, attacking me for using natural bioidentical hormones.  She makes me sound like some whack-job idiot, even though I bombarded her, at her request, with dozens of studies showing the efficacy, safety and protective nature of these hormones, but she chose to ignore the data and not print any of the resources.

You might find it interesting that Pat Wingert, the journalist behind the Newsweek attacks, has written her own book on synthetic hormones.  I guess she has an agenda.  How can she call herself a journalist when she refuses to print the other side's position?  I sent her all the studies, back on Feb 12th, verifying the efficacy and safety of bioidentical hormones and the safety of estriol replacement.  I also stated to her at that time, I do not, DO NOT inject anything into my vagina.  She wrote the slam job in February and now she's re-writing it again.  So she did sloppy journalism and did not do her homework - even though she has my email and could have contacted me to verify information.  She never bothered.  Such is Newsweek Magazine.  Then they go after Jenny McCarthy for the work she is doing with autism.  Jenny is a friend of mine and she has done amazing work to bring about awareness and help to autistic families, but because Jenny theorizes that vaccinations may be a cause for autism being on the rise, Pat Wingert calls her crazy.

Here are just a few of the studies I sent to her on the safety of bio-identical hormones, in response to the first attack she made on me.  Read them and make your own decision.

Resveratrol NOW

by Suzanne Somers 5/28/2009 10:00:00 AM

Suzanne Red WineI was watching my favorite show, 60 Minutes, last Sunday and they had a segment on Resveratrol.

Resveratrol is found in grape skins – it’s a plant extract that has shown dramatic effects for maintaining optimal health.  It’s found naturally in red wine – and provides the link supporting the notion that red wine, in moderation, has health benefits.  In simple terms, there’s something powerful in the Resveratrol molecule.  It turns on a gene called SIR-1 that makes our bodies rev up our defenses to protect us from disease.  I see it as ninja warriors sitting at the entrance saying, “No way!”  In fact, 60 Minutes noted a daily dose of Resveratrol could stave off age-related illnesses and increase life span by a decade or more!  I was happy to see this report getting out in mainstream media.  Last year, I wrote about Resveratrol in several of the chapters of Breakthrough, since many of the anti-aging doctors and professionals brought it up as an important daily supplement in anti-aging medicine and preventative care (Chapter 3 – Dr. Ron Rothenberg, Chapter 5 – Bill Falloon, Chapter 14 – Dr. Russell Blaylock, Chapter 19 – Dr. Prudence Hall, Chapter 28 – Christiana Paul).

HERE’S WHAT SHOCKED ME ABOUT THE 60 MINUTES REPORT…

Morley Safer:

Dr. Westphal says we all may soon be taking a drug that just might beat the clock, a simple pill that could delay the inevitable. "Our goal is to prevent and forestall many of the diseases that strike us as we reach 50, 60, and 70. All with one pill."

Convinced they were on the verge of a major scientific breakthrough, Sinclair and Westphal launched Sirtris, a Cambridge, Mass. research company. They, along with a handful of other cutting-edge biotech companies, are developing resveratrol-based drugs that they believe zero-in on the longevity gene.

"The important news here is not that we'd found something in red wine. The important thing is that we passed a milestone where we can now make drugs based on this knowledge and we can potentially slow down aging itself," Sinclair explains.

My friends, you do not need to wait until the pharmaceutical companies create a synthetic replica of something that already exists and is readily available!  Resveratrol is available as a supplement now.  Of course, since it’s natural, your insurance will not cover the cost.  As soon as these scientists create the synthetic version it will be “the new essential drug,” it will cost exponentially more, and insurance will cover it.  Is this crazy or what????

I take Resveratrol every day.  You do not need to wait for the scientists to create a drug based on the same ingredients, then patent that drug and tell you it’s more effective than the natural plant extract that already exists.

Well, 60 Minutes, you are still my favorite show, but you only got part of this story correct!

Sincerely,

Suzanne Somers

Upcoming LIVE Appearance – Las Vegas Hilton

by Suzanne Somers 5/14/2009 2:00:00 PM

Hi Friends,

I have always loved the energy of Las Vegas.  You hop off that plane and the warm air hits your face along with the palpable buzz of the city.  The lights, the sounds, the slots, the shows, the spectacle… it’s an incredibly sexy town.  I had the privilege of working in Vegas as a headliner, with big hair, sequined dresses, and lots of back-up dancers, for more than a decade.  This Memorial Day Weekend, I am returning to Vegas with a whole new look… you won’t find me in sequins, but it’s the sexiest look yet because it’s the look of health, wellness, and vitality.

I will be speaking on the afternoons of Saturday, May 23rd and Sunday, May 24th at the Hilton Theater, as part of my BREAKTHROUGH LIVE lecture circuit.  As my loyal readers know, I have written 18 books about health, hormones, weight loss and sexuality.  My lecture, called Breakthrough –
Live To 100 With Great Health and Great Sex, tells you how to balance your hormones with bio-identicals, how to sleep 8-9 hours a night without drugs, how to improve your memory, how to prevent and manage cancer, how to preserve eyesight and hearing, and how to achieve a satisfying life of heightened sexuality – forever!

And here comes the best part… my best friend, Barry Manilow, will be performing his AWESOME show in the very same theater that night!  Catch my lecture in the afternoon to restore youthful health and sexuality to your life, then dance and sing along with our very own legendary, Barry Manilow.  I call that lucky!

Vegas is calling – the sun, the sounds, the slots, and the shows!!  Join me at the Hilton Theater at 4pm, either Saturday, May 23rd or Sunday, May 24th on Memorial Day Weekend.  I promise, you’ll have a memorable experience.  Click here for tickets.

Hope to see you there!

Sincerely,

Suzanne Somers

Fashion Spotlight – Girls’ Best Friend!

by Suzanne Somers 4/22/2009 3:18:00 PM

I have worn my Girls’ Best Friend Sweater so many times it is almost embarrassing! I even wore it on Larry King AND The Ellen Show!  The elbow length sleeves cover any “arm schmutz,” and the length is perfect for covering your rear without being too long and overwhelming.

Visit my web site at www.suzannesomers.com and click on Fashion to check it out – or use this direct link to Girls’ Best Friend Sweater.   I’ve worn it belted, off the shoulder, hooded, with a blouse, turtleneck or a tee shirt underneath, and I love myself every time I walk out the door in it!  It’s the perfect year-round piece that looks great because of the weight of the knit… not too heavy, not too thin!

For my friends on Facebook, when you click over to my site and purchase my Girls’ Best Friend Sweater you can enter the discount code of “FaceBook” and enjoy a 30% discount on this item!!!

If you’re not familiar with my line of clothing, it’s meant for all of us who want to look hip, sexy and modern, without looking desperate!  Where is it written that once we get to a “certain age” we have to start dressing like old ladies?  On the other hand, we surely don’t want to dress like teenagers!

All of the pieces on my site are meant for women like us; they are cut just the right way to flatter our good parts and camouflage those areas that aren’t exactly the same as when we were younger. Not only that, all the pieces are meant to mix and match from one season to the next!

I promise that once you get this sweater home, it will become your new best friend! Please check it out, and accessorize with my new Aviator Sunglasses and Jewelry!  Let me know how you like it!

Sincerely,

Suzanne Somers

SUZANNE Cruise!

by Suzanne Somers 4/9/2009 12:40:00 PM

MSC Poesia

I just got done with a show on HSN and we received a flood of email about my upcoming SUZANNE Cruise – so I thought I would tell you a little more about it.  While Health, Hormones, FDA, Pharmaceuticals, Anti-Aging, and Organic Foods are always top of mind for me, I can’t forget about the side of me that likes to travel, party, dine, be pampered, and just relax with friends and family.   My upcoming SUZANNE Cruise combines all of these wonderful topics in an incredible trip to Jamaica and Grand Cayman Islands.  For those of you who were with me in 2001 on my last cruise – you know it was non-stop fun.  You have been asking, for years, for me to do another one.  Well, I’ve been a little distracted writing books and lecturing around the country, etc… now I am finally bringing you a SUZANNE Cruise that will be the best one yet!

November 10-15, 2009 the Italian Cruise Ship, MSC Poesia (means “poetry” in Italian) will depart from Fort Lauderdale on its maiden voyage in North America.  And guess what, it comes with Italian chefs!!!  This will be the best food yet.  You know how I love to eat, and I love great food.  I am so excited for great Italian food!  We’ll have all the tropical foo-foo drinks, sandy beaches, and spa treatments you would expect in a cruise, but I am also bringing some amazing seminars with medical experts that I interviewed in Breakthrough to answer all of your questions.  This is a very unique opportunity to combine all the fun you would expect from me, with great information to help you live long, happy lives.  I’ll also pull up a mic and do a little show for you with some of my favorite songs.  Plus, we have so many fun events lined up that will have us all laughing and kicking up our heels.

I am so looking forward to seeing all of you.  I feel such a connection to you and I wait for these events when we have a chance to connect in person!!  I know money is tight for everyone right now.  Some of the accommodations are more reasonable than you would think.  See if you can swing it, with your spouse, with a friend, with a mother or a daughter.  This cruise is for women and men!  Come join me!!!

Sincerely,

Suzanne Somers

Keep Your Hands Off My Organic Garden!

by Suzanne Somers 3/18/2009 9:51:00 AM

Dear Friends,

As you probably saw on OPRAH, I love my organic garden, and each day I anticipate my walk down the hill to pick the freshest, most scrumptious vegetables of the day.

I seek out restaurants that offer at least one organic entrée.  I support my local farmers’ market and frequent those stalls that sell organic, and I also encourage the supermarkets to sell organics.

I often wonder when we decided it was a good idea to spray poison on our food; and today, with the cancer rate at epidemic proportions, there is definitely a link from chemicals and poisons to cancer.

So to find out that there is a bill being introduced to our House and Senate in two weeks banning organics from being grown and sold, including backyard organics so that we would not even be able to grow our own for our families, boggles the mind.  I can only assume that with the growing popularity of organics, the manufacturers of foods with poisons are lobbying like crazy in Washington, DC.

Please write or call your state representatives or senators to protest this craziness (download the action alert document below for instructions).  This is America… we should be able to EAT what we want.  Don’t you think?

Here are some more links for your information:

House Bill H.R. 875

Senate Bill S. 425

Send me your thoughts.
