Suzanne's Live Chat Transcript
Tuesday,   August  14,  2001

Suzanne: Hi everyone. Once again, my apologies for last week's botched chat. So, we have an exciting weekend coming up at Home Shopping Network when I'll be premiering my new apparel line. It starts with a fabulous mid-length denim barn jacket with a matching ankle-length skirt, plus denim 5-pocket jeans and a cotton v-neck tee shirt. You're going to love these separates and they are very reasonably priced. Plus, we have incredible co-ordinating shoulder bags and boots in suede with faux ostrich embossed leather detailing. And make sure you tune in to see my first set of mix and match pajamas, including a luxurious satin quilted jacket and skirt. And now for your questions.
Guest67 I CAN'T TAKE ANYMORE ARTIFICIAL SWEETNERS......WHERE IS THE SOMERSWEET, PLEASE?
Suzanne: For those of you asking about SomerSweet, have patience. This November your life will change...all our lives will change.
Terrie THANK YOU! My husband is afraid to try SS because of family history of high chol. & blood pressure. What can I read to support the SS way of life?
Suzanne: Terri, the first thing you should read is my latest book, EAT, CHEAT AND MELT THE FAT AWAY and if you want more information, read Dr. Schwarzbein's THE SCHWARZBEIN PRINCIPLE
Gridmama What about yucca?
Suzanne: Many of you have asked about yucca. I have it listed in the latest book as an acceptable vegetable and, yet, on the FAQs it says it is not allowed. I will check into it and post it on the Somersize message board.
tyri suzanne.. i really want to lose weight, and have purchased your "eat, cheat..." book. how do i get started ?, i am a little afraid to be dissapointed and have been putting it off
Suzanne: The sooner you commit, the sooner this weight will go away. Commit is a big word. You just have to decide, "I'm going to do it." I know you can do it, I believe in you.
lynn How do you handle a situation in which you are out at a function such as a wedding etc, and there is nothing legal to eat? I feel like I do well at home when I can cook, but when I am away I have a hard time and find that it is either eat or not eat and be hungry. Any advice?
Suzanne: Unless you are going to weddings every single day, an occasional cheat won't set you back too far. Pick around the carbs as much as possible, and if you're going to go for it, have the wedding cake!
Cindy Hi Suzanne....I lost 10 lbs on your program, but recently I started to cheat with the sweets. How can I get back on track? HELP!
Suzanne: Go back to Level One right now...and I mean right now!
Brad Suzanne, first of all, I have lost 104 lbs eating this way, God bless you! Second, I saw you perform years ago at the Ameristar Casino in Vicksburg, MS. LOVED IT! Ever thought of recording an album? Bet you'd sell many!
Suzanne: How sweet. As you know, I love to sing and I'm so proud of your weight loss. What an incredible achievement. I hope you feel like I do that you can stay on this the rest of your life. And for my album, tell my husband. I keep asking for the same thing
vej Is there a limit on the amount of heavy [35%] cream we drink ... I use it, diluted with water, in my decaf tea and coffee, and I'm sure it amounts to about a cup a day ... is this too much?
Suzanne: Technically, no; but let's be sensible here. You really cannot overeat cream and fats as long as you are not having them with carbohydrates. Your body will tell you when you've had enough. If I put a whole bowl of butter in front of you, you wouldn't be able to eat it all
Guest72 Will your sugar sub. spike my sugar levels? Will the truffles?
Suzanne: SomerSweet will not spike insulin. In fact, the insulin response is so low, it's even safe for diabetics. Plus, it's 99.9% chemical free!
Guest112 What is the sweetner Xylitor?? (possibly I have the wrong spelling) my childs flouride tablets is sweetned with it...thank-you
Suzanne: Xylitol, I believe, is made from the bark of a tree; but it goes through a hydrogination process which makes it chemically altered.
Guest1345 I have purchased several olive oils and cannot find any that I like the taste of. What is the next best oil I can use? I thought Canola was good until I read where it should not be used for frying foods. How about plain old vegetable oil??
Suzanne: I happen to love the taste of olive oil, but for some the taste is too strong. Feel free to use vegetable oil in place of it; but for frying, I recommend peanut oil. It has the best flavor and it stands up to high heat.
Guest448 Can children under the age of 13 Somersize or is there a danger to youngsters?
Suzanne: I wish all children were Somersizing. It would help decrease the mounting problem of childhood obesity in this country. We must get our children off of sugar and empty carbohydrates.
Guest1345 Are there any new videos in the works?
Suzanne: Funny you should ask. I just completed two new videos in my How to Cook series. They will be available on the website in September and I think they're quite good!
Rox will you ever have shoes in size 4?? please, please
Suzanne: You are the first to request a size 4. I will keep a list and if we have enough demand, I would love to have shoes in your size...you little Cinderella foot!
Guest448 Are the recipes easy to prepare for a person with little or no time to cook anymore?
Suzanne: I am working on recipes that are fast and easy and also a food line that will make Somersizing faster and easier.
Guest689 In Eat, Cheat and Melt the Fat Away, you mention that exercise helps us release the stored sugar from our cells......I walk on the treadmill at least an hour a day minimum five days a week. Does it make a difference regarding releasing the sugar from the cells if you are walking in your "fat burning" zone vs. walking in the higher "cardio" zone?
Suzanne: As for your treadmill, I don't know the answer to this technical question...just keep walking!
Barbieque Do you have or is there a cookbook in the works?
Suzanne: First of all, we have the Somersize recipe contest entries, and they are fabulous. I don't know how we'll ever choose the winners. The results should be in sometime in October. Plus, I have my new Somersize Desserts book which will premiere on the cruise in November and will be available for purchase on the website and HSN as well as in your local book store.
InternetBabe Suzanne, are you working on any cookie recipes? I'm looking forward to the holidays and cookies are a tradition. (PS I just had your Baby Back Ribs for dinner... YUM!)
Suzanne: Cookies are tough because you need a lot of flour and you also need fats. Sorry, cookie!
Ann How are you Suzanne? I am sure you will be asked this many times. We all love you.
Suzanne: Thank you so much. I appreciate that. I'm feeling great and having a wonderful summer. I just had my check up at the doctor and everything looks perfect.
Guest685 My doctor has me drinking a cup of low fat soy milk every day for hot flashes. It works like a charm, but is it a problem for somersizing?
Suzanne: Technically, low fat soy milk is a funky food because it has carbs and fat; but if it's helping your hot flashes, it may be worth the small imbalance you're creating.
chosen4u Suzanne, I received an email stating that daily level 1 desserts should not affect our weight loss, but I am finding when I have them I get stalled... any advice???
Suzanne: You need to listen to your own body. This program was created to help millions of people, but each of us has a unique metabolism and we must listen.
Lasvegasgal While SSing can we use fructose as I have been told?
Suzanne: There are many different kinds of fructose. High fructose corn syrup will spike your insulin to Mt. Everest. Pure crystalline fructose is a low glycemic sugar and will only cause a moderate rise in your blood sugar. In my new SomerSweet I use a small amount of fructose blended with other sweet fibers which lessens the effect even more
CatLuvr500 Are any of your pajamas going to be a knit type fabric?
Suzanne: I believe in October we will have a darling thermal knit pajama with a satin hood. You'll be able to wear it outside as a running suit also
fat2long Will somersweet only be available from your web site?
Suzanne: It will be available on my website and also from HSN. I hope soon it will be in every store across the country and Canada. Wait till you see the can...it's so cute.
jojo suzanne i need some mini trilliants and some nice big honker rings?are we getting them soon?!!!
Suzanne: Lots of them are coming up in the next collection.
ouiser Hi Suzanne, Anything in the clothing line in the future for petite women ...short in height I mean.
Suzanne: ouiser, thanks for letting me know. I always like to know what the demands are of my ladies. In the meantime, I hope the small will work for you.
SueC Which time slot will you fashions air?
Suzanne: All weekend long the fashions will be available. So tune in for any show, but hurry, because they are going to go fast.
Lavendee Does the Somersweet have a laxative type effect if you have too much of it?
Suzanne: SomerSweet has natural fibers; so if you eat an extraordinary amount, you may have a laxative effect. In tests most people find that it helps keep them regular by providing the daily fiber most of us are missing from our diets.
suso will you have extra large in your new clothing line???
Suzanne: Yes. You're going to especially love the satin quilted jackets. They are light as a feather, big and boxy. They look great with jeans or the matching skirt that goes with it. It comes in black and hot pink.
kai What new skin care is coming out? I love it and would like to see 2 things, 1 a cleanser with out the scrubbies and an eye cream.
Suzanne: Thank you, those are good suggestions. We already have an eye cream in the works that will come out this fall and I will look into a cleanser without the scrubbies.
chrissysnow1 Suzanne are you ever going to write anothe autobiography about yourself?
Suzanne: So far I've done parts one and two. I feel I'm a four-parter; so yes, you should be seeing more from me.
Guest543 i'd really like to order those truffles, when are they available
Suzanne: As soon as the weather starts to cool, we will re-introduce the truffles on the website. Make sure to sign up for our Chocolate Lovers Club so you can buy multiple boxes at discounted prices. Registration for the Club will begin soon, and you should have truffles in your mouth by late September or early October.
Guest804 Hi Suzanne, last night I rented your movie, "No Laughing Matter" and I loved it. Your acting was so great in it. Did you enjoy making the movie?
Suzanne: I did enjoy making that movie. It forced me to go back to times in my life that were painful; and doing this movie became very theraputic for me, especially finding great compassion for the alcoholic.
terripat I have been on this diet since May 15th, and have lost 42#. Suzanne I have you to thank for my new figure & new way of eating! Thanks.
Suzanne: Congratulations! Yea! and tell your friends!
Guest776 How do you feel about the new product "Splenda" ??
Suzanne: Splenda will not spike your insulin, so you can have it and still lose weight. HOWEVER, Splenda is chlorinated sugar. You know what that means? They put chlorine into the sugar molecules and you're left with a big pile of chemicals.
Guest2614 Hello room from Canada...
Suzanne: Hello Canada. I get so many questions and requests asking if my products will be available in Canada. We do ship to Canada. I love being married to a Canadian.
Margaret How many hours of resistance training (weights) and how much cardio (aerobics) do you do weekly? daily?
Suzanne: At the moment, I work out five days a week; but that's because I just started again after a lapse of laziness that lasted three months. As a general rule, I work out three days a week for one hour. 1/2 is free weights and 1/2 is aerobics. On my off days, I power walk.
mic will a multi vitamin with starch in the ingredients affect a persons weight loss?
Suzanne: The small amount of starch is probably the gel coating on the capsule. If it doesn't have any sugar in it, it should be fine. If it does have sugar, try to replace it with another brand.
Sparkles Suzanne - we need a boobmaster!
Suzanne: You're telling me! I was thinking I need some harnasses attached to my ears!
ONLY1GRACE I found a wild rice that I love, how can I make sure it is somersizes
Suzanne: As long as the ingredients list wild rice only, and not white rice or long grain rice, it should be fine.
Nina Your "How to Cook" video is such an inspiration! Do you plan to do more?
Suzanne: We now have a set of four videos total starting with the Somersize Program and 3 How To Cook videos. I plan on doing many many more
Guest638 And your commercial for the Torso Track convinced me to buy one, and I did and now I feel better than ever! Do you recommend any other excercise machines that can make me feel great?
Suzanne: Try the Ultra Track. It does everything the Torso Track does plus your lower body too. You can do lunges and really work the inner and outer thighs as well as your butt. It's a fanatastic machine. Give your Torso Track to a friend and pick up an Ultra Track on the website in September.
got_skinny suzanne..can u tell me if sundried tomatoes is a no no?? i read the package and it said 5 grams of fat!!
Suzanne: Sundried tomatoes are tomatoes in oil...a perfectly Somersized food.
ojaimissy I really wish you could get your darling Caroline to collaborate on a book targeted especially towards young kids ! My 5yr.old daughter and I are lactose- intolerant and it's hard to find snacks that aren't friut or other carbs.
Suzanne: My darling darling daughter in law, Caroline works with me on all my books and Somersize for Children is the next in the series.
Lori I saw you on Rosie, I'm 27and becuase of you I did a breast exam, and have been diagnosed with breast cancer. I have scheduled a masectomy. Thank you for discussing this.
Suzanne: My thoughts will be with you; and I'm so sorry you have to go through this. Good luck.
Guest829 Our garden is full of tomatoes and they are soooo good! I'm afraid that I might be eating too many of them. Could that be possible? I don't want to mess up a good thing.
Suzanne: I don't think you can eat too many tomatoes, especially at this time of year when they are so fantastic. For my lunch yesterday I had an enormous mound of tomatoes with olive oil, basil and buffalo mozzarella.
Karen Suzanne, I just want to say "thank you" from many of us for your website. Great info and the Chat Room is the best. Thanks for providing it for us.
Suzanne: You are welcome. I'm so happy you are enjoying the chat room. I check in from time to time and I see that you are all having a ball together and it makes me happy. And Marsha tells me what's going on all the time. Thank you to all of you...you guys really make the site.
yolie Is there more than 1 prize for the recipe contest? Ah come on, say it's so
Suzanne: I have received so many great recipes, I'm sure we will have the maximum number of prizes, which is 30.
Guest2225 Pauline asks can you eat eggs everyday if you wanted to?
Suzanne: Eat your eggs! The campaign is true...the incredible edible egg.
Guest553 no question...just a compliment..your program is the best!!!! so easy to follow..and the cheescake recipe is the best!
Suzanne: Thank you, thank you. We are also introducing a frozen SomerSweet cheesecake that will knock your socks off. Look for it in September on HSN and also here on the website.
Suzanne: Thanks, everybody. So nice to have a chat and actually get to chat. See you soon. Make sure to tune in to HSN this weekend. You're going to love the new apparel line. Bye.
