1. Q: CAN I HAVE JUICE?
A: By the time you make juice from fruit you have taken out all the nutrition and are left with fruit sugar. Technically, if you are drinking juice alone, you may have it in the same way you eat fruit alone. However, many juices are very high in natural fruit sugar and I recommend you drink them sparingly. The whole fruit also contains fiber which helps to reduce the effects of insulin. But sometimes on Level One it's great to enjoy a Popsicle made from fruit and fruit juice only. Beware of eating too many products with concentrated fruit juice because it will make your insulin spike.
2. Q: I CANNOT FIND SUGARLESS ORANGE JUICE. ANY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE MAKING OF SMOOTHIES? I LOVE THE FRUIT FIX FOR BREAKFAST.
A: When you say you cannot find sugarless orange juice, are you checking the ingredients or the nutritional panel? It has natural sugar that will show on the nutritional panel. However, as long as there is no form of sugar added in the ingredients it is okay. Usually it will say 100% pure orange juice on the carton.
3. Q: I KNOW I CAN HAVE TOMATO JUICE, BUT IS IT A CARBO OR A PRO/FAT?
A: Tomato Juice would be considered a vegetable; and, therefore, you can have it with either
4. Q: I KNOW V-8 JUICE IS A FUNKY FOOD, BUT WOULD IT CAUSE TOO MUCH OF AN IMBALANCE IF I USED A SMALL CAN TO MAKE MEATBALLS?
A: I don't think you'll have a problem. If you want to be a purist, you could substitute tomato juice and add onion powder, garlic powder, celery seed, salt, pepper and Tabasco sauce.
5. Q: I HAVE ALWAYS EATEN A BANANA TO GET ENOUGH POTASSIUM. WHAT CAN I EAT ON SOMERSIZING, SINCE BANANAS ARE FUNKY?
A: Some alternative sources of potassium are apricots, nectarines, cantaloupe, grapefruit, honeydew, pears, peaches, prunes, tomatoes, artichokes, asparagus, spinach, green beans, cauliflower, spaghetti squash, mushrooms, and chard.
