Somersize - Potatoes
1. Q: ARE YAMS OKAY FOR LEVEL TWO?
A: Yams are pretty high in starch similar to a potato and should be treated as such. Anything is okay in Level Two, but only in moderation. As for yams, reserve them for your treat if you really like them. You will diminish the effect of any high starch food by eating it with plenty of fiber, like a big green salad.
2. Q: MY HUSBAND LOVES STEAK AND POTATOES. IS THIS ALLOWED? IF NOT, WHAT CAN YOU SUGGEST TO SERVE WITH STEAK?
A: Potatoes are a Funky Food because they are high in starch. These kinds of foods turn directly into sugar in our bodies upon digestion. I would suggest you try Celery Root Puree. There is a recipe in EAT GREAT, LOSE WEIGHT on page 98. It is a great substitute for mashed potatoes. I would also include a vegetable with this.
3. Q: WHEN COOKING A ROAST FOR FAMILY AND THERE ARE POTATOES COOKED WITH IT, CAN WE STILL EAT THE MEAT?
A: You are probably okay if you pull out the potatoes and just eat the meat.
