Somersize - Salad Dressing, Dips, Mustard, Ketchup
|

Q: CAN I EAT RANCH DRESSING ON LEVEL ONE? |
| A: Ranch dressing is made with buttermilk, which is a Funky Food. |
|
| | 2. |
Q: CAN I HAVE MAYONNAISE AND OIL? |
| A: You can't have oil and Mayo with Carbs, but you can have them with protein, which is chicken, meat or fish. For instance, a chicken salad with Mayo would be perfect. |
|
| | 3. |
Q: CAN I HAVE SALAD DRESSING? |
| A: Yes! The great thing about Somersizing is that you can have the oil and the fats. Watch out for bottled salad dressings. Watch out for commercially prepared dressings that have sugar or some type of starch or thickener in them. Of course, these are all dressings you would use when having pro/fats and veggies. If you are having a Carbos and veggies meal, your dressing can have no fat. |
|
| | 4. |
Q: CAN I USE KETCHUP ON LEVEL ONE? |
| A: Ketchup is usually sweetened with some form of sugar. It is important in the early stages of Somersizing to eliminate all sugars so you get rid of all cravings. |

Q: CAN YOU RECOMMEND STORE BOUGHT SALAD DRESSINGS? |
| A: I don't use bottled salad dressings because I don't like the preservatives they add. There are several Italian types that are great, Paul Newman's & Giraurds are both good. It's hard to find Blue Cheese or Thousand Island without sugar. You can also try my salad dressing mixes, or make your own. I know you probably don't have time, but it only takes a few minutes, and it keeps in the refrigerator for many weeks! |

Q: MOST STORE-BOUGHT SALAD DRESSINGS HAVE BOTH FATS AND CARBOS. I USUALLY EAT SALADS WITH MY PRO/FATS MEALS, AND AM WONDERING HOW FEW CARBOS IS FEW ENOUGH TO QUALIFY FOR A PRO/FATS MEAL. I'M STICKING TO ONES WITH 2 OR FEWER GRAMS OF CARBOS PER SERVING. |
| A: Please remember to check the ingredient list as opposed to the nutritional panel. There are some natural carbohydrates that will show up and that is fine as long as there are no carbohydrates added. Make it easy on yourself. Stop looking at the nutritional panel. Just check ingredients and make sure all the ingredients fit in with the Somersize food groups in the proper combination. |

Q: SHOULD I STAY AWAY FROM A BRAND OF SALAD DRESSING OR ANYTHING ELSE IF IT LISTS SUGAR AS THE LAST ITEM IN THE INGREDIENTS AND SAYS THERE ARE 0 GRAMS OF SUGAR IN THE NUTRITIONAL PANEL? |
| A: In my early Somersizing days I would have said not to include anything that has sugar in the ingredient list. I even had Best Foods mayonnaise on the no-no list because it has sugar listed in the ingredients. I have since learned that the amount of sugar in my beloved Best Foods is so slight, that it does not even show up on the nutritional panel. Yeah, Best Foods is back on the acceptable list and I would say your salad dressing is probably fine, too. If you are doing well and steadily losing weight, you can incorporate it without a problem. Just be sure not to include these questionable treats around every corner, or they will start to catch up with you. |

Q: WHAT IS FAT FREE DRESSING CONSIDERED? OR SHOULD IT EVEN BE EATEN? |
| A: You need to check the ingredients. My sense is that you are having a hard time categorizing fat-free dressing because you cannot pronounce any of the ingredients! Acceptable fat-free dressings are made from vinegar, lemon-juice, herbs, non-fat yogurt or non-fat sour cream, and would be considered Carbos. Check my recipes for some cleaner versions, rather than the nasty bottles in the grocery store. |

Q: WHEN HAVING A ORIENTAL CHICKEN SALAD & MAKING MY DRESSING FROM SCRATCH, CAN I USE BALSAMIC VINEGAR? |
| A: Yes, balsamic vinegar is a Free Food. If you're interested, check out my recipe for Chinese Chicken Salad in Get Skinny (p. 188). |
|

Q: YOU LIST MUSTARD IN THE CARBO SECTION. DOES THIS MEAN WE CAN ONLY HAVE MUSTARD WITH CARBO MEALS? |
| A: I used to avoid mustard with Pro/Fats because I thought it had trace amounts of carbohydrates. Since then I have changed my tune and now allow it with Pro/Fats, Carbos and Veggies. |
