Somersize - Spices, Oils, Extracts and Olives
|
| | 1. |
Q: I KNOW YOU SAY OLIVES ARE A FUNKY FOOD BECAUSE THEY CONTAIN PRO/FATS AND CARBOS, BUT THE JAR OF OLIVES I HAVE RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME SAYS CARBOHYDRATES. CAN I EAT THEM? |
| A: Go for it. There seems to be some variance depending on the olives. |
|
| | 2. |
Q: I LOVE SESAME OIL AND PUMPKIN OIL ON MY SALADS. IS THIS ALLOWED? I KNOW NOT TO EAT THE SEEDS BUT IS THE OIL OKAY? |
| A: You've got it right. You can't have the seeds, but the oils are fine to use. Enjoy! |
|
| | 3. |
Q: I THOUGHT PEANUTS WERE A FUNKY FOOD, SO WHY IS PEANUT OIL USED IN SOME RECIPES? |
| A: Peanuts are funky because they contain a combination of carbos, fats and proteins. In the process of making peanut oil the carbos are removed so you no longer have the bad combination of carbos and fats. |
|
| | 4. |
Q: ARE FLAVORED EXTRACTS OKAY TO USE? |
| A: Flavored extracts are fine to use as long as they do not have added sugars, like corn syrup. Since you use a minimal amount the alcohol in it should not be a problem. |
|
| | 5. |
Q: IS IT OKAY TO USE CINNAMON? |
| A: Absolutely! Spices and herbs are free foods. |
|
| | 6. |
Q: WHAT CAN I USE FOR OIL OR OILING A BAKING PAN FOR HOMEMADE BREADS? |
| A: Technically you should not use any fat with your Carbos; but if you need a thin layer of oil, I would use a spray oil, like Pam, so that you use the minimum amount. |
|
| | 7. |
Q: WHY CAN I USE OLIVE OIL AND I CAN'T HAVE OLIVES? |
| A: You can have olive oil because it is a pure fat, but olives contain fat and carbohydrates |
|
| | 8. |
Q: YOU USE SEA SALT IN YOUR COOKING VIDEO. IS SEA SALT BETTER THAN REGULAR TABLE SALT? |
| A: Yes, yes, yes! Please give it a try, it has a wonderful flavor! |
|
| | 9. |
Q: YOU'VE MENTIONED MALTED BARLEY IS AN ACCEPTABLE INGREDIENT IN GRAPE NUTS CEREAL, WHAT ABOUT USING MALTED BARLEY EXTRACT AS A SUGAR SUBSTITUTE FOR MAKING HOMEMADE BREAD? |
| A: The difference between malted barley and malted barley extract is that in the extract, the carbohydrates from the barley have already been converted into sugar. Malted barley extract is very high in sugar, and therefore a Funky Food. |
