1. Q: BY AVOIDING OR LIMITING "FUNKY FOODS", ARE YOU DEPRIVING YOURSELF OF ANY VITAMINS AND MINERALS THAT AREN'T SUPPLEMENTED IN THE REST OF THE DIET?
A: Somersizing has a wide variety of foods from every food group. If you eat from all the food groups, you will get all the vitamins and minerals you need.
2. Q: CAN PSYLLIUM FIBER, LIKE METAMUCIL, BE USED ON LEVEL ONE?
A: Fibers like Metamucil are fine as long as they do not contain sugar. Try to find the sugar-free Metamucil. Better yet, get your fiber from real foods, like whole grains, plenty of fresh vegetables and fruit.
3. Q: DO YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION ON SOME WEIGHT LOSS PRODUCTS SUCH AS: CHITOSAN AND CARB BLOCKER? ALSO DO YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION REGARDING THE USE OF STIMULANTS LIKE XANDRINE THAT CONTAIN EPHEDRA AND MA HAUNG?
A: I'm not familiar with these products. Any product that contains stimulants will mess with your metabolism. Don't look for weight loss in a diet pill. You will only subject yourself to a lifetime of roller-coaster dieting. Heal your metabolism the natural way by eating real foods, the Somersize way.
4. Q: EVERY TIME I SEE AN ARTICLE ON THE DIET OR SEE A TV PROGRAM IT ALWAYS MENTIONS THAT THE DIET IS WELL BALANCED BUT LACKS CALCIUM. I FIND I EAT A LOT OF CHEESE AND HAVE CREAM IN MY COFFEE BUT OBVIOUSLY WITH NO ENRICHED WHITE FLOUR OR MILK IN CEREAL THI
A: Calcium is essential to protect us from osteoporosis. There are many calcium rich foods in the Pro/Fats, Veggies and Carbos. Cheese, cream, sour cream all have calcium. Broccoli and kale are excellent sources of calcium. And all the nonfat dairy products in the Carbos group, like milk, yogurt, cottage cheese and ricotta cheese have loads of calcium. Still, it never hurts to add a calcium supplement. There are no specific nutrients that this program is lacking, but it depends on how you choose your meals. Balanced eating is up to you. I eat a very balanced diet, but I still take a variety of supplements.
5. Q: I AM ON DEPO-PROVERA. WILL THAT HINDER MY WEIGHT LOSS?
A: Hormonal imbalance is a major reason for weight gain. The type of hormones and the amount of hormones can affect your weight. I choose natural hormones. Ask your doctor about natural hormones. I also recommend you see an endocrinologist to get your hormones balanced during menopause.

A: The minimal amount of candy-like coating on Advil should not have an affect on your results
9. Q: I NEED TO DRINK A WHEY PROTEIN DRINK IN THE MORNING (HAS NO SUGAR). IF I COMBINE THIS WITH SOY MILK, WILL THAT BE OKAY? IF NOT, CAN YOU MAKE SOME SUGGESTIONS? WITH THIS PROTEIN DRINK CAN I STILL HAVE A CARB BREAKFAST, OR IS IT LIKE EATING A PROTEIN B
A: Whey protein is fine as a Pro/Fat. Soymilk is a funky food. Be sure to read your whey protein label carefully to be sure that it does not contain sugar or other Funky Foods. Find a whey protein that has very low carbs, such as 3 grams or less.
10. Q: I TAKE 1 TABLESPOON OF FLAXSEED OIL IN THE EVENING. I HAVE NOT LOST ANY WEIGHT AND HAVE BEEN ON THE PROGRAM FOR 3 WEEKS. DO YOU THINK THE FLAXSEED OIL IS KEEPING ME FROM LOSING WEIGHT?
A: First of all, good for you, flaxseed oil is an excellent supplement. I don't think the flaxseed oil is the problem. Please be patient and stick with it. Some people start dropping weight immediately, for others it may take a while. It took me two months to start losing weight, but believe me, the patience pays off. Once the fat begins to melt away, you will be amazed with the results. Hang in there!
11. Q: OVER THE COUNTER PAIN KILLERS SUCH AS EXCEDRIN MIGRAINE THERE IS CAFFEINE. HOW DOES THAT AFFECT MY HORMONE BALANCE AND DOES IT CAUSE MY INSULIN LEVEL TO RISE? DO YOU RECOMMEND ANY PAIN KILLERS THAT DO NOT CONTAIN CAFFEINE?
A: Over the counter medications can affect your weight loss. You'll have to check with your doctor to find pain medications without caffeine. Depending on how many you take, yes, the caffeine can cause an insulin response.
12. Q: IS IT OK TO PUT BREWER'S YEAST, FIBRO FLAX, BEE POLLEN, & MSM IN MY FRUIT SMOOTHIE IN THE MORNING? I FEEL LIKE MY WEIGHT LOSS IS BEING INHIBITED BUT I AM TRYING TO EAT THOSE THINGS BECAUSE THEY ARE A CANCER PREVENTATIVE.
A: Usually we don't add anything to fruit. Have you tried sprinkling these things on whole grain cereal or oatmeal? If you are steadily losing weight I would not worry about this addition; but if your weight loss is slowed, try taking these things in pill form during a Carbo meal.
