Q: CAN I HAVE A CUP OF DECAF WITH CREAM BETWEEN TWO PRO/FATS MEALS? |
| A: Yes. |
| 2. |
Q: CAN I HAVE HOT COCOA MADE OUT OF HERSHEY'S PURE COCOA WITH ARTIFICIAL SWEETENER AND SKIM MILK? WOULD IT BE COUNTED AS A CARBO? |
| A: Technically, cocoa is a Funky Food and should be eliminated on Level One. Cocoa has caffeine, which can spike insulin levels. But if you're going to have hot chocolate, the recipe you devised would create the least amount of imbalance, and yes, it would be considered a carbohydrate. Look for my Somersize Hot Cocoa, too. |

| 3. |
Q: CAN I HAVE ICED TEA? |
| A: Yes, but it should be decaffeinated. |
| 4. |
Q: CAN I HAVE SOME CLUB SODA WITH JUST A SPLASH OF 100 PERCENT FRUIT JUICE TO GIVE IT SOME FLAVOR? |
| A: A splash of fruit juice equals a splash of insulin. This combo is only acceptable with Fruit meals. Otherwise, try a splash of lemon or lime juice. |
| 5. |
Q: CAN PERRIER TAKE THE PLACE OF MY WATER INTAKE, OR CAN IT JUST BE USED AS AN ACCEPTABLE DRINK ALTERNATIVE IN ADDITION TO EIGHT TO TEN GLASSES OF WATER PER DAY? |
| A: Perrier counts toward your eight to ten glasses |
| 6. |
Q: EVERYBODY ALWAYS SAYS TO DRINK EIGHT TO TEN GLASSES OF WATER A DAY. ONLY PROBLEM IS THEY NEVER STATE WHAT SIZE GLASS WE SHOULD BE DRINKING. |
| A: This would be referring to drinking an eight-ounce glass of water. |
| 7. |
Q: HOW LONG AFTER EATING CAN YOU DRINK WATER? |
| A: Try to wait until you're at least halfway through your meal to drink anything. The majority of your drinking should occur between meals-two hours after your last meal. |
| 8. |
Q: I AM HOOKED ON CRÈME BRÛLÉE FLAVORED DECAF COFFEE. THEY ARE COFFEE GRINDS, NOT THE FLAVORED COFFEE WITH SYRUP. |
| A: Assuming these are coffees flavored with extracts, you may enjoy them on Level One. |
| 9. |
Q: I DRINK A HOT BEVERAGE CALLED CARO (THE INGREDIENTS ARE SOLUBLE SOLIDS OF ROASTED MALT BARLEY, BARLEY, CHICORY, AND RYE). I HAVE IT HOT WITH SKIM MILK, WHICH I KNOW YOU TREAT AS A CARBO. SO IS IT OKAY TO DRINK? I WAS PUT ON TO IT AS A HEALTHY COFFEE |
| A: I can't tell from the ingredients list if these are whole grains or refined grains. If they are whole grains, you can have Caro with skim milk as a Carbo. You cannot combine cream with it for a Pro/Fat because you would be combining Pro/Fats with Carbos. |

Q: I DRINK DECAF IN THE MORNING WITH NONFAT MILK. DO I HAVE TO WAIT THREE HOURS BEFORE HAVING A PRO/FATS MEAL? |
| A: Technically the answer is yes; however, a splash of milk will probably not take three hours to leave your system. Use your weight loss as a guide. If you are steadily losing weight on Level One, try waiting less time and see if your body reacts negatively. I doubt you'll have a problem. |

Q: I FOUND A SUGAR-FREE AND CAFFEINE-FREE AND FAT-FREE COCOA POWDER IN THE HEALTH FOOD STORE. IS IT OKAY? |
| A: Wondercocoa is a great product. It still has carbs, so technically it's Almost Level One, but it's a better choice than regular cocoa. |

Q: I KNOW THAT FOR COFFEE AFTER A PRO/FATS MEAL, I SHOULD USE CREAM, AND FOR COFFEE AFTER A CARBOS MEAL, I SHOULD USE FAT-FREE MILK. BUT WHAT ABOUT COFFEE BETWEEN MEALS (I.E., MID-MORNING COFFEE BREAK)? |
| A: If you are switching from Pro/Fats to Carbos, or vice versa, you need to wait three hours. The same rule applies for milk or cream in your coffee. For example, if you had a Carbos breakfast, wait three hours and then have decaf coffee with cream to prepare for a Pro/Fats lunch. |

Q: I NEED MY CAFFEINE IN THE MORNING. HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO WAIT FOR MY INSULIN TO DROP BACK TO A NORMAL RANGE AFTER ONE CUP OF COFFEE? |
| A: If you absolutely must have a cup of coffee, wait a couple of hours before your next meal. Just know that caffeine boosts your adrenalin, which drops your serotonin levels. Low serotonin levels make up crave comfort foods, which are usually carbs and sugars. Try decaf! |

Q: I WAS CURIOUS ABOUT ORDERING COFFEE DRINKS FROM PLACES SUCH AS STARBUCKS. BESIDES GETTING DECAF COFFEE, WOULD IT BE SAFE TO ORDER A DRINK THAT IS DECAFFEINATED, SUGAR FREE, THAT USES FAT-FREE MILK? OR DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS FOR GOOD DRINKS |
| A: A decaf, sugar free, fat free drink is fine. I love decaf herbal tea and decaf nonfat cappuccinos! When you drink coffee with nonfat milk, that is a Carbo and should be considered the same as a member of the Carbo food group. If you drink decaf coffee with cream, that is a Pro/Fat and should be treated like a Pro/Fat food. |
| 15. |
Q: IF I AM DRINKING SOMERSIZE DRINKS OR OTHER DECAF ICED TEAS, DOES THAT COUNT TOWARD MY WATER INTAKE? |
| A: Yes, you may count this as water. |
| 16. |
Q: IS FLAVORED TEA, ESPECIALLY FRUIT, A FREE FOOD AS LONG AS IT IS DECAFFEINATED? |
| A: Flavored teas, as long as they are decaf and have no added sugar, are fine. Enjoy! |
| 17. |
Q: IS GREEN TEA ALLOWED? |
| A: Yes, as long as it's decaffeinated. |
| 18. |
Q: IS IT OKAY TO HAVE SUGAR-FREE LEMONADE DRINKS LIKE COUNTRY TIME AND CRYSTAL LIGHT? |
| A: Yes, but do know that most sugar-free drinks contain Aspartame, which has been known to cause brain damage in laboratory rats. Personally, I try to stay away from all chemicals and drink as much water as possible. But if you are craving a soft drink, the caffeine-free, sugar-free ones are the best. |
| 19. |
Q: IS IT OKAY TO SQUEEZE FRESH LEMON OR LIME INTO WATER? |
| A: Yes, lemons and limes are very low in sugar, so they are categorized as free foods. |
| 20. |
Q: IS IT SAFE TO HAVE LATTES IN THE AFTERNOON THREE HOURS AFTER A PRO/FATS OR CARBOS MEAL IF IT IS DECAF, NO SUGAR, AND SKIM MILK? |
| A: Yes, it is a Carbo because of the skim milk. |
| 21. |
Q: WHERE CAN I FIND DECAF CAPPUCCINO? IS IT CONSIDERED A CARBO OR PRO/FAT? |
| A: A cappuccino is made from espresso and steamed milk/frothy, foamed milk. To make it Somersized, it would be a Carbo made with decaf espresso and nonfat milk. I get mine at Starbucks, but you should be able to find one at any local coffee house. |
| 22. |
Q: WILL DRINKING CAFFEINATED COFFEE SLOW DOWN MY WEIGHT LOSS? |
| A: Quite possibly, yes. Caffeine causes a spike in your insulin level, and as you know, insulin is the deciding factor on whether your food is used for energy or stored as fat. Weaning yourself off of caffeine is difficult for the first couple of weeks. I know, I used to be ADDICTED to the stuff! I had headaches for the first few days, but now I don't even crave it anymore. Try treating yourself to a quality decaf coffee to help you get through the process. If you must incorporate caffeine on level one, it's best to drink it alone. That way, when your insulin rises, you won't have a meal in your stomach in jeopardy of being stored as fat. |

Q: YOU SAID COCONUTS ARE A FUNKY FOOD. WHAT ABOUT THE WATER INSIDE THE COCONUT AND THE COCONUT MILK YOU GET OUT OF SHREDDED COCONUT? |
| A: The water/milk you speak of is also high in sugar, and therefore a Funky Food. |
