Mistletoe has been reviewed by experts at the National Institutes of Health as an adjunctive complementary treatment for cancer.
- A review of mistletoe use in cancer was completed by the University of Texas Center for Alternative Medicine Research in Cancer in 1997 by Mary Ann Richardson, PhD.
Currently she is a program officer at the NIH - National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine in Bethesda, Maryland.
- Dr. Jeffery White, Director of the Office of Cancer Complementary and Alternative Medicine at the National Cancer Institute, in 1998 provided an overview of mistletoe to the Cancer Advisory Panel (CAP) of the NIH Office of Alternative Medicine. Dr. White noted that the scientific literature suggests that mistletoe may have anti-tumor effects and may enhance survival.
