Alzheimer's

This week we lost a national treasure to Alzheimer’s; another on a long list of people  who are succumbing to the destruction of the human brain.  Why are we not alarmed? Aging Baby Boomers are particularly at risk, with a shocking estimate of 10 million who will develop Alzheimer’s– all of whom will die from or with the disease due to fact that there is currently no known way to prevent, cure or even slow the debilitating effects of this devastating brain disorder. Of Baby Boomers who reach age 85, nearly HALF will develop Alzheimer’s*, a painful, slow loss of memories and impaired judgement that leaves caretakers as trapped as their loved ones.

We are now expecting that the end of life will bring one or all of the big three: cancer, heart disease, or Alzheimer’s. When did this become the new norm? I often think of President Reagan, a wonderful man I had the pleasure of knowing, yet at the end of his life he had no idea who he was and what he had been. Tragic.

Today’s children are battling a bevy of brain issues: ADD, ADHD, OCD, Bi-Polar, even Schizophrenia. What has happened? What has changed?

According to the Environmental Working Group (EWG) a study was conducted across the economic spectrum of cord blood of newborn babies for 287 different toxins (these are babies who had not yet even tasted mother’s milk). ALL of them tested positive for a minimum of 180 different toxins.** Think about that… our babies are now born toxic! Those of us born before 1950 grew up on clean food, from that point on, the environmental assault has been in full force. If you don’t want to be one to succumb to the terrible fate so many are tragically enduring, consider making drastic changes in your lives. As I have written about extensively in TOX-SICK, chemicals of all kinds are the enemy. The choices we make on a daily basis have everything to do with our end point.
