I loved Susanne, I was lucky enough to meet her in Palm Desert during Fashion week several years ago and our picture was taken for the Desert Sun because everyone thought we looked so much alike. It is on Facebook under my profile Marie Nyssen. She will be missed!
First, I want to start off by saying when a celebrity passes away I just kind of think; Oh that’s too bad. But it’s different with Suzanne. I actually cried. I never do that because I don’t know the celebrity personally, but Suzanne had a much different approach for people who loved her acting. She made a connection with us all and she made us feel like she is a close friend of ours. So when she passed away it was like losing a dear friend even though I never met Suzanne personally, I felt I knew her personally.
Suzanne came back into my life when I was having a very difficult time with thyroid disease and I gained a ton of weight. Ididn’t even feel like the same person. I was cleaning in my living room and this Oprah Winfrey show was on and she announced Suzanne Somers. I was like oh wow! I haven’t seen Suzanne in years. I quit cleaning and sat down because I wanted to see where Suzanne is at today what she’s doing with her life. And then it kind of started off with you can have your cake and eat it too and I’m thinking really? Because cake is a weakness of mine, so how can I eat a cake without it, making me gain any weight so that really got my attention. After that show, I purchased her book. The way she wrote the book, kept you quite in twined. I followed exactly what she said and I lost 30 pounds in one month. I kept purchasing every book she wrote. I have them ‘all’. The books introduced us to her family. We got to watch the grandkids grow her books alone, drew me closer to her as a human being, and not just a celebrity. They allowed me to get to know her. They allowed me to get to know Bruce and Caroline and their kids and Leslie and all her grandkids and her husband Al . Even Suzanne’s friends, mother and sister. So not only did her books help me learn how to eat healthier than what I was, they drew me in to her home, and allowed me to learn about her family. So those books created a connection for me to her whole family who doesn’t even know who the heck I am. Haha. Because of her I was able to clean up the inside of my body just by following her way of eating. I felt better than I ever had in my entire life. And I just couldn’t get enough of Suzannes wisdom. I was thinking I had no idea she could cook so good I had no idea she was so smart. I bought her blender, I bought her deep fryer. I bought these gorgeous bowls they’re like spring style bowls they are so nice and I use them every year at Easter, and during spring. I wanted to buy her slow cooker, but I never did get to purchase that. I did buy her face master and the thigh master. Like there’s so many things in my home that is, Suzannes. I used to buy all the food that she had. I miss her crème brûlée I miss her coconut chocolate bars. I miss the chips she had. I missed the chocolate bars she had. I wish that could all come back. She just amazed me. There was nothing. This woman didn’t think of to make things easier for people.
She taught me a whole new method of taking care of myself. When I thought I was eating relatively healthy before, I realized just how much I wasn’t eating healthy at all. I completely changed how I cooked for my own family and I felt so good about the foods. I was feeding my children because I knew they were getting everything they needed. And I continue to eat that way today not quite to the strict level one plan. More the level 2. So she totally cleaned up my pantry, changed how I cook, i create my own dishes now and I offer a service called recipe conversion so that I can change how other people eat as well. Because we all know those treats those desserts are not so great for us but as she said you can have your cake and eat it too. I make it much different because I can’t have gluten so I’ve come up with some really creative ways to make cake and cookies and Nanaimo bars you name it I have a way to re-create it so it’s healthy. I I would’ve never been able to do that if it wasn’t for Suzanne though. She taught me it’s OK to play with food and recipes and change things up and make your own type of thing . I was so inspired with her knowledge that I wanted to be just like that. So I studied for my PhD in integrative medicine so I can help others. I cannot thank her enough for how much she changed my life. And reading through her books and seeing all the people send her their before and after pictures, with a blurb explaining how much their health has improved, just made me trust Suzanne even more. She is a pioneer, she is a legend, she has a beautiful soul, her smile lights up peoples lives, and just hearing her name or using her shampoo. When I am washing my hair, makes me happy.
I was very young when she played in threes company but I loved her from there. When they switched characters, I hated those replacements. I didn’t even care to watch the show anymore. But I stayed hopeful that I might see her again but sadly, that never happened.
Suzanne always talked so kind, and she let us all know that you need to be happy in life and you need to be healthy. I remember her saying something like you have the choice to control what old age looks like for you you can choose a path that will bring you to illness or you can choose a path that will give you longevity and she said something like you’re going to want to play with your grandkids. You can’t do that if you’re not healthy. Those words sunk in. I just am forever grateful this beautiful woman was brought to earth and I’m very saddened that she’s gone. I do recall her saying she wanted to make it into her hundreds and I really wish she did.
Bruce, I am so sorry you lost your mom. Al, I hope you do all right. I am sure it is hard to believe and absorb. And I’m sure there’s an emptiness/void when you walk into the home knowing she’s not there anymore. I hope that you guys continue to operate the business that she was so passionate about. I thank Caroline for taking such an interest in being part of her journey in this healthcare business. There is a lot of people counting on you to keep this going, because for two reasons:
1. It will keep Susanne alive for all of us. That might be a little bit selfish.
2. This is her legacy. It meant so much for her to make a difference in the lives of people.
So I hope you all keep this going even if you have to take turns doing it. I will forever purchase from you. I love her products and I have to tell you when I take my prebiotic first thing in the morning that bottle has never meant so much to me before.
When I open it, or have my gut renew, Suzanne I feel is right there with me.
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to share our thoughts. The one thing I just about forgot to mention is the time she would go on cruises with people that were her fans. I can’t remember how it worked exactly and I would’ve loved to go, but I had very young children at the time so it wasn’t possible. This is how she connected with the people that adored her.
Suzanne, I will never forget you and I will
Continue to learn, because I, too, am very passionate about keeping myself healthy, and that was all inspired from you. I love you so much. You are a true angel. Usually we cannot see our guardian angels, but I’m sure that’s what she was put on earth for. RIP you precious human being. ♥️💔🕊️
I am so saddened by the loss of such a wonderful, innovative, special lady. I grew up idolizing Suzanne is a little girl watching threes company, it is my favorite show of all time. Past couple years I discovered her Facebook live show, just listening to her and Al tell their stories would take all worries away. I am a certified health and wellness coach and to have somebody that you look up to promote that type of lifestyle and have the knowledge that she had was a very deep connection for me. God bless, Al, Bruce, Caroline and the entire family as you carry on her legacy✨💛
All the best memories from my childhood laughing and loving your shows, from so so far away. Love from Chile!
I’ve really enjoyed reading some of the messages that have come in. I feel the same as all the others.. I am in total shock. I thought we would be blessed with her life for many more years, and just devastated she’s really gone. I watched her FB lives 3xs a week and really enjoyed them and her YouTube videos. As a single women, it really helped lift my spirts, especially during covid. Her products are all around my house, and her loss has been weighing heavily on me, as she was someone I really looked up to, trusted and admired deeply. Like so many others have written, I felt like she was an old friend I’ve known for years & felt so welcomed into her life for an hour or so three times a week. I have cried a few times at the news and just feel so unsettled with it- it was much too soon for our health warrior! She had such a spirit to her- she lit up a room with her love and big smile. She will be so, so missed! I love her! I can’t imagine what Al, Bruce and the family must be going through. I’m sending them all love and strength during these very difficult time. We are all grieving with you. May you find peace, and give yourselves time to process and grieve. I’m sure Susanne is very much around you sending you all her love and wanting you to feel better. May we all feel better, allow the feelings to come up, and remember all the wonderful teaching and life lessons she taught us over the years. I’m so grateful for her & Alan’s courage and dedication to write the books, create the shows, blast out healthy messaging to the masses, and share your beautiful family with all of us. May God bless you all. ❤️🙏🏻
