Thank you for all you did in the fight against breast cancer and women’s rights. You were always a lovely light and I know that you are with God. Healing prayers for your family.
Beautiful women inside and out.
I am so saddened by the passing of my health crusading SHE-RO Suzanne Somers. She was so much more than Chrissy Snow from the 80’s sitcom Three’s Company, or creator of the infamous THIGH MASTER. She shared her personal health journey over the past 30 years with the world through her 27 authored books, prolific research and networking of physicians and medical practices; exposing and educating many like myself to the integrative medicine industry, health, fitness and lifestyle nutrition through, healthy recipes, her cutting edge supplements, toxic-free beauty, skin and hair products. Even the strength, resilience and the fight she put up the first time she was diagnosed with breast cancer 23 years ago and was able to overcome and dared to do things a different way and took an approach that challenged the status quo for cancer treatment, particularly for women with breast cancer; making some choices for her body that many thought was an impossible course of treatment. She far surpassed the odds while going the route of meeting brilliant global doctors doing incredible things in their fields. She exposed herself to their studies and treatments, learned, then applied and became much like a teacher to the masses through her books, public appearances, and her recorded interviews with these physicians. She did not just survive, or exist, she thrived along with her husband 10 years her senior who even in her 70’s and he in his 80’s joyously bragged of their daily sex life…read her books yaay BHRT! She was the original lifestyle enthusiast with a lifestyle brand and business acumen that grew into an empire involving all of her beloved family.
I remember years ago going out for a meal with my mom and she would take out her little packets of Somersize Sweetener and I would ask incredulously, What is that Mom? “It’s Suzanne Somers healthy sweetener. It’s good for you.” That was the beginning of it for me. Several books later my mom finally convinced me to read one of Suzanne’s books and it opened my eyes and changed my life in such a big way. I was able to then begin educating myself about integrative medicine, preventative wellness and anti-aging. It opened my eyes to a whole new world of physicians and preventative screenings and treatments and procedures that you never would know about at your standard annual physical. I’ve been able to share and expose her work with family members and it’s a way of life now for myself and my husband. We’ve shared with several family members and friends while we’ve been able to connect to physicians and practices in our own area that are a part of Suzanne’s network of physicians that she’s interviewed, done amazing research with and has incorporated them in her books. I’ve learned so much and really it all started with her work!
I know that her family is mourning and I’m saddened as well. The last book she penned “A New Way to Age” a few years ago, I probably gifted it to about 10 people whether it was a hardcover or an audiobook gift. To me, it summarized so much of her life’s work and I am so thankful and grateful for her pioneer spirit, for her overcoming spirit, for her courage, strength and JOY to just age gracefully and doing so in partnership with her loving husband. God bless her husband Alan, her son Bruce, her step kids and her grandkids. As I’ve written on this small pictorial tribute to some of her books, her work will live on!
Rest in Peace Suzanne…
