Hello to Allan Hamel, Bruce Somers, and Family,
Please allow me to convert my deepest condolences to your family with this profound loss of Suzanne.
I felt so deeply moved and saddened at the news of Suzanne’s recent passing. I’ve been wandering around stricken for days now, by the fact that I can’t believe she’s actually gone – she was a master at making lemons out of life’s lemonade and how I remember I felt like I’d lost a dear friend and confidante. This loss is profoundly shocking to me – as I can see that she made herself so relatable to us all – like she was one of us, an everywoman but at the same time also a sort of superheroine seeking a path towards happiness and fulfillment. I was actually shocked at the impact it had on me personally as even now I deliberate how it is possible to carry on and continue my own journey without her as my life mentor of sorts. I feel truly crippled by sadness at a bright light that was snuffed out far too soon. There is a big void in the world for the starkly brilliant beauty that she produced out of the ashes of her life.
I can only hope that her spirit will live on in and through me to help me to aspire to rise higher once again, to press on in honouring her special legacy that she so lovingly and authentically portrayed in all of her experiences. She was the embodiment of genuine and relatable. Perhaps that’s why it felt so personal – like the same kind of loss the world felt when Princess Diana so tragically passed before her time in 1997.
The world is truly crying crocodile tears because a great woman like Suzanne has departed from this earthly realm and she was like a mentor and inspiration for so many.
Perhaps now she is advocating the features and benefits of ThighMaster for all the angels to help them fly more buoyantly on celestial realms with streamlined loins!
Clearly she was a woman of many diverse seasons and reasons who made an indelible mark on the world stage as a warrior woman conquering so many insurmountable challenges with a constant positive flair and fierce determination.
Her incredible books all lovingly line my bookshelves at home as it was so fascinating to read her groundbreaking work that emanated out of these pages- facts and stories about the medical system and big pharma and how she carved out her own path to healing and took a bold stance in her own path to wellness. She was way ahead of her time in the many paths she carved out. A pioneer of her own truthful principles.
In my own breast cancer journey some of these things I’ve learned is the very important business of self advocacy to get what you need for your own story. The tone that was set in her books was one of brave warrior among the beasts of big pharma and medical protocols – which she navigated so firmly and resolutely in her own hopes for better answers and solutions.
I had the deep pleasure of seeing her in person at a motivational event in the 1980’s in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and she blew me away with her spirited talk about life and all its possibilities. I left that seminar totally moved and inspired about my own life simply because she constantly reinvented herself and made it all seem so damned relatable and possible. So much so too, that I just had to find and purchase a replica of the same gorgeous off the shoulders green sweater she was wearing at that particular function that was a stunning look to her overall fabulous aura. I began to reinvent my own life little by little after that and felt a deep resonance with her as I too was a single mum raising small children alone, have battled numerous bouts of breast cancer over the last 20 plus years, that has recently metastasized – so I could understand the trauma and ramifications of the difficult journey she’s been on. She was a bright guiding light who defied so many odds.
I also had the pleasure of meeting Allan Hamel in Toronto, Canada many years ago when he delightfully hosted a kid’s show in the sixties called Razzle Dazzle. I was a kid in the audience awed and stricken with a crazy crush on Allan’s radiant smile and friendly open demeanour. It was one of my favourite shows as a kid. Who would have thought that I would meet both parties over the years and how I distinctly remember how both events made me feel.
Now as I contemplate Suzanne’s passing, I hope to garner more strength and determination in my own breast cancer battle by thinking about the incredible path she forged for myself and so many other women as an inspiration to hope, faith, love, living authentically, expressing your own truths at all costs and how to ultimately build a better life as a result of all these incredible qualities she had.
I felt honoured to know her, and there is much gratitude in my heart. I will pray for your family to garner strength to carry on and to also be inspired by the big footprints she has left behind in the sand. A true testament to a life well lived with a pure and true spirit. May she rest in peace knowing that she truly moved the world in a myriad of ways. What I know for sure is that she moved and rocked my world in a big big way that continues to have residual ongoing benefits and totally warm feelings in my heart for this thing we call the family of humanity. Well done Suzanne. The world was a better place because she was in it. Amen. Love to you all. It matters deeply. ❤️Marianne Gruber
